Andrew Bown works with the mighty Status Quo and is the multi-instrumentalist of the band. You'll see him playing keyboards, harmonica and guitar on stage with Quo. A full member of the band since 1976, he has contributed some great songs to the Quo hit list including "Whatever You Want" and "Burning Bridges". "I bought some more (guitars) from Jamie Davey who, as far as I'm concerned, is a guitar god. He makes custom-built guitars modeled on the glorius Telecaster, although he actually made me a Stratocaster as well. Every guitar he makes for you is better than the last one and sounds completely different. It's fantastic!" - taken from an article on Andrew in 'From the makers of... Vol. 10', The Offical Quo Fan Club Magazine. |

Paul Parker, lead singer, lead guitarist, lynch pin and founder member of the Shropshire based band All the Right Friends over 12 years ago, has quite literally got more front than Brighton. "Jamie has made me two Telecasters that have been of great use to me over the last 10 years, my main one is a natural wood body with a wide profile C shaped neck. It has a Stratocaster style pick up arrangement with the neck and bridge pickups being upgraded to coil tapped twin blade Humbuckers so I can really make it sound like anything! It also has a Fishman power bridge for acoustic sounds, and more than a few battle scars after being played for around 700 gigs both in the UK and abroad. |

Alex Harris is a freelance tour manager and guitar tech. He has been working in live music since leaving the Army nearly 10 years ago. In that time he's worked all over the world with artists such as The Levellers, The Futureheads, The Waterboys and many others, playing everything from small clubs and theatres to huge sports stadiums. "I asked Jamie to build me a '60's style Tele in blonde with a rosewood board and hot pickups. 7 years down the line it bears a few gig scars and the neck has started to age beautifully. It's just one of nine guitars I own but it's still the one I play most often." |

Stephen Sankey is a fantastic young guitarist from Shifnal who, in July 2007, became the proud owner of J.Davey Custom # 020, a beautiful Custom Telecaster. "I have a couple of Gibsons and a Jackson and I've played many different guitars in my short time playing but the custom build that Jamie made for me is my all time favourite guitar to play. Jamie was just able to encapsulate the sound and style of the music I love and mould it into one beast of a guitar, one that's great for heavy or soft songs. |

Jim Cooper plays bass with several Midlands based bands and in July 2008 commissioned a custom built Precision/Jazz bass from J.Davey Custom. PJ Bass # 036 takes pride of place in his collection. "I wanted a bass to replace an old battered Precision that I've been using since I started out. Jamie suggested I tried one of his custom builds and I immediately fell in love with the idea of having one of my own. My new bass is beautiful and plays like a dream, the specialist pickups and set up that I requested have provided a most flexible and well balanced bass that has become the envy of all the guys I work with!! I'm extremely pleased with it and would recommend Jamie to anyone looking for a quality customised instrument or just for his fantastic set up and repair service. Each custom guitar is built with the same passion and attention to detail as if it were his own and I'm sure he was very sad to see my bass leave the shop!" |

Paul Gooderham, vocalist, guitarist and harmonica player with electro/acoustic band Remnants, has been going to Jamie for an number of years and recently took his 1960s Klira guitar to the shop for him to have a look at. Paul's relic needed a set up and the electrics sorting out - no mean task as it is such an old guitar. However, with 'a bit of magic' as Paul puts it, "Jamie did a great job and instead of it sitting on my wall, I'm now enjoying playing this gem once again!" "He also set up my Takemine 45c Cool-Tube and Yamaha APx 12 String - an unenviable task as the electrics were well and truly up the creek. It's great to be able to take your instruments to someone, confident in the knowledge that a good job has been done, and at a fair price! How about this as well, for those that do solo work, I constructed a foot-stomper type thing, a la Sea Sick Sid or whatever his name is. Well, Jamie wired it all up for me and installed the appropriate pickup - it sounds original and is totally unique!!" |

Simon Reynolds works with the Shropshire based Indie Rock cover band Microbaby and plays rhythm/lead guitar. "Huge thanks to Jamie for setting up my Fender Lite Ash Telecaster. The guitar arrived with an impossibly high action and was buzzing all over the place. It's come back from Jamie's workshop playing like a dream. He also fitted a superb retro scratchplate and a 4-way mod switch - attention to detail on both were superb. It's what I've come to expect from Jamie. Guitar building, repairs and set up are his passion and it shows! Jamie also did a sterling job in converting a left handed Strat neck to right handed for me - it remains my favourite neck and I'm seriously considering having Jamie replace the body with one of his own custom built specials. I honestly can't recommend Jamie highly enough - if you're going to entrust your pride and joy to anyone, believe me, it won't be in any better hands than Mr. J. Davey! The man's a legend in his own lunchtime - bon appetit!!" |

Russell Thomas bagged J.Davey Custom # 001 of Custom Strat series built to special order by Jamie and nicknamed 'MagAcoustic'. Russell is also director of his own company, Libra Commericial Solutions, and provided Jamie with helpful guidance when he first set out in the Custom Guitar business. Built to his own specification, MagAcoustic is fitted with Kinman Marvin pickups combined with a Fishman acoustic bridge. Russell says it sounds great through his 1964 AC30 via a 1966 Roland Space Echo - 'valves and nostalgia all the way'! "I have enjoyed working with Jamie and his success is well deserved - thanks for a great, fantastic value guitar! Beautifully put together, set-up just the way I like it and finished to the highest standard, it puts my Fender Custom Shop 50th Anniversary to shame!!" |

Ken Burdon has known Jamie for many years and would often buy and sell guitars from Shifnal Music. "Eighteen months ago I decided to bite the bullet and bought two Custom Telecasters, which were so excellent it removed my desire to by any other guitar! However, one day I had a rush of blood to the head and bought a cheap Slim Line acoustic from eBay. When it arrived it looked very nice but was completely unplayable. I thought this would be Jamie’s biggest challenge ever. I should have known better! Within a week I had a guitar that not only looked good but was a joy to play. I do not know how he does it. It’s a joy to do business with him!!" |

Mick Carvell is bassist with Alternative Route and has had his J.Davey Custom Jazz bass since April 2009. Jamie played with the band on the Country Rock scene for about 10 years back when they called themselves High'n'Dry. Alternative Route now play a mixture of 60s and 70s Pop/Rock. "It's great! I gave Jamie a sample of the colour I wanted and he matched it perfectly. The EMG pickups give a good balanced sound across the whole range coupled with a great range of tone. When Jamie builds a guitar you know it's not just thrown together on a production line, in other words it looks great, it sounds great and it plays great. I should have had one sooner!!" |

Pete Arrowsmith is guitarist with with ceilidh folk rockers The Bedcote Ceilidh Band and recently had Jamie work on several of his guitars. In particular an Alvarez acoustic that he fitted with a Fishman passive sound hole pickup and a Stratocaster that was set up and had its pots adjusted. "I'd just like to say another big thank you for looking at my guitars, all of which I have to say play wonderfully after you performed your magic on them. The quality of your work is so much better than in-store guitar guys - your care and attention is much appreciated!" |

Amit Dattani plays guitar, banjo and lapslide with a local country blues/roots duo called Mellow Peaches. The band play original material influenced by old ragtime and blues music and perform around the West Midlands with a washboard player and a handful of kazoo's! "Jamie, you really sorted out the frets on my old Martin and I just wanted to say cheers again, you did a top job! It now plays fantastic and there's still no dead notes, I'm well pleased! |
